Art and business collaborate. BRT, with a view to raising awareness and inspiring change, supports the new exhibition by award-winning Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky, titled Burtynsky: Abstraction/Extraction.
After the worldwide success of the exhibition Anthropocene, a multimedia exploration that documented the indelible human footprint on the earth, the artist continues its exploration on the impact of human action on the planet through a new exhibition which will be hosted in Italy for the first time in M9 – Museum of the 20th Century starting from 21 June 2024, after its debut at the Saatchi Gallery in London, UK.
The exhibition will be open from June 21st 2024 to January 12th 2025.
Along with the environmental concern that drives Burtynsky’s creative process, there is an equally compelling exploration of the strangely beautiful signs that industry leaves on Earth. Burtynsky’s works evoke contradictory emotions in the viewer and reflect the complex situation in which we find ourselves.
They show fascination with the ingenuity of human progress and, at the same time, anxiety about its consequences.
The exhibition features large-scale printed images, organized into five main sections: Abstraction, Agriculture, Extraction, Production and Industry and Waste. The exhibition also includes a group of high definition murals and the award-winning multimedia projection of In the Wake of Progress, as well as Burtynsky’s exclusive Augmented Reality (AR) work.
